This is the only solution for connecting non-FireWire Macs to each other, and it works pretty well - albeit slowly if you're used to FireWire. You just plug an end into each computer and the software loads automatically. A window pops up with a split screen - one computer's drive on the upper half of the window and the other computer's drive on the lower half of the window. Then you just drag and drop.

The documentation does a poor job at explaining that you need to go into the Preferences and decide which computer is the 'giver' and which is the 'receiver' of the data. I can't recall what language they use, but it's a bit confusing.

'Source' and 'Destination' would have been good word choices, but they don't make it as intuitive. You can also set one computer to be Read-only (again, they don't use that phrase, so it's a bit confusing), so you can make absolute certain you're not accidentally copying the files to the wrong computer. Overall, this is just a darn good thing for a Mac person to have to safely and easily transfer files from one computer (Mac or PC) to a Mac. Kudos to Targus for being so Mac-friendly! I've used this for quite a while and it's been great for connecting two computers to transfer files. It connects 2 Windows computers, 2 Mac computers, or a Windows computer and a Mac computer together to make transferring files EXTREMELY easy.

With this product, gone are the days of going into the computer's system settings to allow sharing and the other hassles just to transfer files. With this you just connect 2 computers and click on a few dialogue buttons that appear in both computers, and 'POOF', they're connected. I especially love how a Windows and a Mac computer can see each others files with ease despite their different formats and different file systems. Smithsonian museum project. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price. It seems a little high to me, but I'd gladly pay it again if I need to buy another one as there's nothing else out there on the market that I've found to be comparable to this.
