RDF files are used to contain metadata with ISO-LATIN-1 or Windows-1252 character encoding, whereas REDIF files are used to store metadata with UTF-8 character encoding. RDF files are typically created with ReDIF software but since they are stored in plain text can be opened and edited by any text editor.
